Credit card statements and bills
How card spending becomes a monthly bill, and how bills get paid — manually or by auto debit.
This page explains the full life of a credit card charge: from the moment you record it to the moment the statement is paid.
How card spending works
- When an expense's payment method is a credit card, it's charged to the card — it does not come out of any bank account.
- The card's balance (debt) is simply the sum of its charges minus the bills you've paid. You never maintain it by hand.
- You can see each card's balance and utilization on the Cards page.
The monthly bill
Every card with a payment due day configured gets a monthly bill:
- The bill's amount is the card's current outstanding balance — it's live, so each new card expense increases the upcoming bill, and what you see always reflects the current state of the card.
- The bill shows up automatically in three places:
- the Calendar, on the due date;
- the Dashboard's Upcoming list;
- the Cards page statement pill.
- Status before the due day: Scheduled for cards you pay yourself, Auto-pay for cards with auto debit.
Paying a bill manually
For cards without auto debit:
- From the due day onward, the bill shows a red "Payment due" badge (calendar, dashboard, and cards page) until you pay it.
- Click the bill anywhere it appears. The bill modal opens with the card, the amount, and the due date.
- Flip the Status from Unpaid to Paid.
- Choose the account the bill was paid from and the payment date.
- Click "Mark as paid".
The bill is settled: your chosen account's balance drops by the bill amount and the card's balance returns to zero.
Auto debit (débito automático)
For cards with auto debit turned on (in Manage cards or onboarding, together with a "pay from" account):
- the bill pays itself on the due date — no badge, no action needed;
- the payment is recorded from the chosen account, dated on the due date, the first time you open the app after the date passes.
The payment transaction
Whether paid manually or automatically, settling a bill creates a normal expense transaction you can track:
- it's posted to the paying bank account, named "(Card name) bill" — Fatura in Portuguese — with status Paid;
- it's filed under the "Credit card" expense category (Cartão de crédito), which the app creates automatically the first time you add a card;
- you'll find it on the Spending page, in the Dashboard's recent transactions, and on the Calendar;
- its fiscal month is the statement's due month, so monthly reports group it with the right statement.
Note on totals: card purchases count toward spending when charged (under their own categories), and the statement payment is also an expense (under "Credit card"). If you compare category totals with your overall spending, remember both are present.
